After being rescued from the Silkyara tunnel, the worker said, “Never lost hope”

One of the workers who was saved from the Silkyara tunnel, Vishal, told PTI, “We never lost hope.”

Following seventeen days of a multi-agency effort by the federal and state administrations, all forty-one workers were freed on Tuesday night.

Vishal, a Mandi, Himachal Pradesh native, was transferred to a hospital in an ambulance after seeing his family outside the tunnel shortly after being rescued.

The workers were transported by ambulances that had gathered at the tunnel to a community health center that has a dedicated 41-bed ward. Inside the tunnel, the personnel had a brief medical examination prior to this.

Vishal said, “We never lost hope,” in a phone conversation with PTI. I’m doing well, thanks. We’re all okay, and I want to thank everyone for the safe evacuation.

When asked how he made it through the hardship, he said, “We felt suffocated for the first few hours, which made them difficult.” But shortly after, communication was established with those outside, and everything gradually returned to normal.

The 41 laborers who were rescued from the tunnel are all being monitored at a hospital in Chinyalisaur. It is probable that they will be sent to AIIMS-Rishikesh prior to being permitted to return home.
