Amritsar Lighting Festival ends

The message of harmony between “Allah and Waheguru” marked the conclusion of the Amritsar Literature Festival and Book Fair at Khalsa College today.

The day began with talks by Principal Mahal Singh and Harinder Singh, the founder of the Sikh Research Institute in the USA, on the Sikh diaspora and migration in the state. Dr. Hira Singh facilitated the conversation.

Sikhs, according to Harinder Singh, are a global group that is being disparaged for a few reasons. He said that accurate statistics on Sikhs needed to be gathered. According to Principal Singh, if people don’t hold political leaders responsible, the state will collapse.

Renowned Punjabi singer Bir Singh sang Sufi tunes on a different show. Chief guest at the occasion was Satnam Singh Manak, Executive Editor of a vernacular newspaper. Because Khalsa College is located in Amritsar, the sacred region, Bir Singh said he felt proud and at ease when he visited.

Atam Singh Randhawa, the fair’s coordinator, expressed gratitude to the publishers and vendors who put up booths and contributed to the success of the event during the closing session. He also expressed gratitude to the instructors and students for their involvement. More than one crore books had been sold during the exhibition, according to Randhawa, which was encouraging for the “Majha Region.”
