Arriving at Amritsar Mandis, 1,409 MT of wheat are purchased

On Friday, the district’s grain markets saw the purchase of 1,409 metric tons of wheat by the government procurement agency.

Harvesting in the area typically starts a week after Baisakhi, so even though the government had started procurement on April 1, the district’s grain markets had not seen significant delivery of the wheat crop until yesterday. Wheat arrivals in the district’s grain markets have not yet accelerated due to overcast skies and spotty rain that caused harvesting to be halted.

The harvesting season has started, according to district mandi authorities, as the mandis in the district registered 3,570 MT of arrivals, with 2,633 MT of new arrivals today. According to the authorities, 2,161 MT of the harvest were unsold because the grains had too much moisture content, out of the 1,409 MT of crop that were purchased by public and private organizations. They requested that farmers send completely matured crops with a moisture level of less than 12% so they would not have to wait for government agencies to purchase them.
