“Illegal Arrest in Fabricated Case”: K Kavitha, Detained for “Liquor Scam,” Attends Court Following a tumultuous Friday

K Kavitha, a BRS politician and the daughter of former Telangana Chief Minister KCR, called her detention in the liquor policy fraud case “illegal” on Saturday and refuted all of the accusations made against her. According to the BRS MLC, the case is “fabricated.”

Following a search of her Hyderabad home, the Telangana politician was taken into custody by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday. Later, she was sent to New Delhi to be questioned.

The ED plans to present Kavitha before a special PMLA court on Saturday in an attempt to have her placed under remand for questioning while in custody in connection with the money laundering investigation. Along with Special Public Prosecutor Naveen Kumar Matta and Special Counsel Zoheb Hossain of the ED, she appeared at Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi.

ED IN COURT: SHE FORMATTED HER DEVICES AFTER FIRST SUMMON
The Enforcement Directorate alleged during the remand trial in Delhi that Kavitha formatted four of her ten gadgets immediately after the agency’s initial summons in the liquor policy case, raising concerns about her behavior.

Additionally, the investigating agency said that Kavitha and her party workers often caused disturbances and did not cooperate with the investigation.

“Her husband and servant have been called for Monday in order to retrieve digital data. Two other people who made statements against her for approaching her are also being called, according to ED.

The agency informed the court that “one phone has scant material and scant data, which shows that the earlier phones were recently formatted and attempted to be disposed of.”

A video of Kavitha’s brother KTR and ED authorities getting into a furious argument went viral on social media shortly after her detention.

After Kavitha’s arrest, a group of medical professionals were seen visiting the federal agency’s central Delhi headquarters early in the morning.

While KTR was being urged not to “obstruct” the team’s work by the investigative agency authorities, KTR claimed that the ED had obtained a “illegal arrest warrant” against Kavitha. He is also heard being informed that “legal remedies are available” by an ED officer.

Kavitha’s defense team is anticipated to challenge the ED’s request for a 10-day detention order, arguing that the Friday ED action was unlawful. Kavitha’s plea for no coercive action in this matter is still ongoing before the Supreme Court and is scheduled for hearing on March 19.

Party employees may experience some psychological effects from Kavitha’s arrest, which occurred one day before the Election Commission was supposed to reveal the Lok Sabha election timetable.

In the meantime, the BRS employees protested Kavitha’s arrest in connection with the Delhi liquor policy fraud on Saturday at the Jubilee Hills bus stop in Hyderabad.

The arrest of Kavitha was an unexpected shock to the BRS, which is already in limp mode after its loss of power. PTI talked with senior party officials, who, on condition of anonymity, said that party members’ morale would be impacted by the arrest of the well-known BRS leader.

The BRS MLC and former Nizamabad member of the Lok Sabha had already declared themselves prepared to answer any investigation.

We declare that we will respond to any investigation. We will undoubtedly respond to any queries that the agencies may have. However, harming leaders’ reputations by providing the media with selected leaks—people would deny it, Kavitha had remarked.
