As a candidate for the Cong, I use a different symbol: Vishal Patil

Kolhapur: It is a three-way race between Vishal Patil, the grandson of the late chief minister Vasantdada Patil, the BJP’s Sanjaykaka Patil, and the MVA’s (Shiv Sena-UBT) Chandrahar Patil. Vishal Patil has maintained his candidacy as an independent candidate from the Sangli Lok Sabha constituency.
The Maha Vikas Aghadi’s Congress made every effort to get Vishal to rescind his candidacy, but it was unsuccessful.

Congressmen are reportedly furious with the party leadership for allowing the UBT to win the Sangli seat.
Speaking in Sangli after the close of the nomination withdrawal period on Monday, Vishal said that he is a candidate for Congress but is using an envelope as a substitute for the traditional emblem. He continued by saying that because he has not received any warning of any anti-party activities, Congress would not discipline him.
I have served as a congressman since birth. In Sangli, I am battling for the Congress party’s continued existence. Withdrawal was not an option for me since the electorate has taken matters into their own hands, the 43-year-old said.

Atul Londhe, a spokesman for the Congress state unit, later said in Pune that Vishal will face consequences.
He said, “All MVA partners will solely support Chandrahar (Patil) in his campaign.”
Aaditya Thackeray, the head of the Sena (UBT), is expected to be present at the MVA’s rally on April 25. Vishwajeet Kadam, a hard-working Congress MLA from Sangli who was elected to the grand old party’s Sangli seat, would also be present at the gathering.

“Vishwajeet Kadam persevered to the very end. He attempted to persuade Chandrahar Patil to step down, but it was unsuccessful. I can appreciate the challenges faced by the party planners. They are also under pressure, but because I have chosen to speak with the people face-to-face, I don’t need to fear,” Vishal said.
Speaking to TOI, Chandrahar claimed that Vishal’s participation has made the fight easier for him. “Every MVA leader is going to stand with me. The three-corner battle has simplified my assignment. Along with other prominent Congress officials, I will be campaigning alongside Sharad Pawar and Uddhav Thackeray, said the wrestler-turned-politician.

Mahesh Kharade, a Sangli native, has been declared as the official candidate by Raju Shetti’s Swabhimani Paksh. The supporters of Vishal urged Kharade to get out of the contest, but Kharade refused to back down.
