Assistant professor accused of sexual harassment is suspended by Saxena

Raj Niwas authorities claimed that Lieutenant-Governor (L-G) VK Saxena authorized the suspension of an assistant professor at a government-run medical college in Delhi on Saturday. The professor is accused of sexual harassment.

After a 22-year-old MBBS student made a complaint against the assistant professor at Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar Medical College and Hospital last month, the police filed a chargesheet and opened a case against him.

“Saxena, despite lacking authority, invoked the ‘intimidating atmosphere for the women students’ and the ‘unprecedented circumstances where the Chairman of the NCCSA—the Chief Minister—iis in judicial custody’, and approved the suspension of the accused Assistant Professor Dr. Salim Sheikh,” the officials said, even though the National Capital Civil Services Authority (NCCSA) is the competent authority in cases like these.

Saxena has, however, written in the file that the NCCSA should be in charge of starting and deciding on disciplinary actions.
