Bengaluru: New Rule to Start Next Week; Pay Rs. 50k for Hoardings; Know Ads That Are Banned

Unauthorized banners and flexes are not allowed in Bengaluru, according to the Karnataka government. Every unpermitted hoarding put up in the city would incur a punishment of Rs 50,000 starting on August 15 from the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).

Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said that the state government would completely assist the municipal body to guarantee offenders pay, even if they are his or the chief minister’s supporters, citing that Karnataka High Court judgment.

“The prohibition will be vigorously enforced. In the next two to three days, all hoardings, including those erected by political figures or other people, will be taken down. Starting on August 15, the BBMP will impose a fine of Rs 50,000 on anybody who disobeys the order, according to a story in the Deccan Herald.

The BBMP reportedly attempted to enforce a ban on all hoardings in 2018 but was unsuccessful owing to a lack of political will.

The top court had criticized the administrators for being lenient on the criminals during a recent hearing. According to the newspaper, the court had also expressed surprise that the municipal organization had not issued fines to individuals who had constructed hoardings unlawfully.

According to reports, the Bengaluru municipal council paid for 59,413 of the city’s unlawful hoardings. However, after receiving over 134 complaints, it only filed First Information Reports (FIRs) against 40 perpetrators.

According to Shivakumar, who was featured in the article, hoardings that include birthday wishes, obituaries, greetings, and those that promote social and religious programs are also prohibited.

According to the story, Shivakumar said that the state government is developing a strategy to sanction the placement of hoardings. “We will draft a regulation designating certain locations in the city for lawfully exhibiting hoardings. It must happen. These hoardings’ location and size will also be decided. The BBMP would file FIRs till then against anybody who posts buntings or flexes, he was reported as saying.
