BJP Hisar candidate Ranjit Singh says the Jat community is not angry with the saffron party

Ranjit Singh, from the Hisar Lok Sabha seat, has been fielded by the BJP. He supported the BJP-led administration in the state after becoming victorious in the 2019 Assembly elections as an independent from the Sirsa district’s Rania seat. The party chose him over other candidates, like former Hisar MP Kuldeep Bishnoi and former finance minister Capt. Abhimanyu. He spoke with Deswal Deepender. Take-outs:

During the campaign, farmers who are angry with the BJP have come up to you. How do you respond to their objections?

With the exception of two cases, farmers have not encountered any problems. Some activists are attempting to use it to further their political careers. I’ve spoken to people who approached me with questions and have been able to persuade them. During their first uprising, the farmers encountered difficulties, which the central government resolved. It’s not a problem anymore.

Some disappointed party members, including Kuldeep Bishnoi, the former MP from Hisar, have not yet endorsed the campaign. Have you or the party made contact with these leaders?

Since the BJP is a cadre-based organization, all members are expected to adhere to its rules. When I was in Congress with Ashok Tanwar, we too had disagreements. I have, however, forgotten these distinctions since joining the BJP and have been advocating for him in my Sirsa district seat, Rania. It is indicative of the immaturity of the leader(s) if they choose not to participate in the campaign. I spoke with Kuldeep Bishnoi twice, and he informed me that he would be joining the campaign in the next five to six days, but he is not keeping well.

Why did the BJP choose to run you from the Hisar Lok Sabha seat?

For the last four and a half years, I have been a minister in the Haryana government. The party collects candidate evaluations using an internal survey system. Manohar Lal Khattar, the previous chief minister, gave me a clue to be ready for the Lok Sabha elections. After Gujarat, we ranked second in terms of solar energy. In terms of performance, both electricity utility firms, Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) and Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN), have received an A+ rating at the national level.

What about Chaudhary Devi Lal’s political legacy? Since Naina and Sunaina, members of your family, entered the competition, the competition has heated up. Will that hurt your chances of winning the poll?

In Indian politics, my father Chaudhary Devi Lal is regarded as an institution. In late 1980s national politics, he had been a key player. He once said that in a democracy, the people make the decisions on legacy issues. Allow the people to make the decision. Anyone may enter the battle by contesting the polls. In fact, I ran against Om Prakash Chautala, my older brother. They are part of our family, just as my children are (referring to Naina and Sunaina). Our familial relationships are strong and unbroken, but election politics is a different story.

During his recent travels to Hisar, former chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar took aim at previous chief ministers Om Prakash Chautala, Bhajan Lal, and Bansi Lal. How do you feel?

Manohar Lal is a seasoned political figure. In whatever he says, he does it responsibly. He never talks negatively about anybody. The remarks you are referring to are not ones I am familiar with.

Will it be an evaluation of the Haryana government, of which you were a member as a minister? If so, what caused the leadership to change?

Manohar Lal Khattar has been an extraordinary leader for the Haryana government. We have performed very well in the departments of power, farmers’ welfare, and GST. Despite the fact that the upper leadership made the choice, I believe Manohar Lal is receiving more accountability.

Why does the Jat community find the BJP offensive?

A. Not in my opinion. The Jat community’s youth have been doing outstanding work in several fields, including education. Through competition, they are obtaining employment. There is sufficient Jat representation in the administration. I have also had unrestricted access to the government.
