BSP and Gondwana Gantantra Party Form Alliance for Madhya Pradesh Assembly Elections

The Gondwana Gantantra Party (GGP) and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) have formed an alliance for the upcoming Madhya Pradesh assembly elections. In a news conference held here on Saturday, BSP Rajya Sabha member Ramji Gautam and GGP general secretary Balbir Singh Tomar announced that the BSP will run candidates for 178 of the 230 seats in the state.

“This coalition will establish a government to put a stop to the violence against Dalits, Tribals, and Women. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress’ authoritarian and capitalist reign will likewise come to an end, and the poor will get justice, according to a statement released later by the two parties. The BSP gained two seats in the state legislature in the 2018 elections, and one of those MLAs eventually joined the BJP.

The GGP was established as a tribal group in the then-undivided state of Madhya Pradesh roughly thirty years ago. In the 1998 election, it gained one member in the assembly. Its greatest result to date came in 2003 when it took home three assembly seats. Rasheed Kidwai, a seasoned journalist and political analyst, said that the GGP, which was founded in 1991, has an unclear future.

In the 2003 assembly elections, it had shown great promise, but in 2008 and 2013, he said, it was beset by leader defections and compromises. For the 2018 elections, the GGP and the Samajwadi Party collaborated. In the state, which has a substantial tribal population, it is no longer seen as a party of indigenous people, according to Kidwai.
