Businessman in Amritsar receives an extortion letter

Amritsar: Attari resident Ram Niwas Pathak has reported to the Gharinda police that he received an extortion letter from an unidentified source. In this respect, the police have filed a formal complaint.

Pathak admitted to the police that he owns a store in the main market in Attari. When he entered his store on Monday, he discovered the Hindi-written threat letter demanding Rs 50,000. A case under IPC sections 387 (extortion) and 506 (criminal intimidation) has been filed, according to sub-inspector Manjit Singh. TNS

Academic books in premier US library

Amritsar: The Library of Congress in Washington, DC, has acquired Balvinder Singh’s book, “Splendid Artworks in Historic Sikh Shrines of India and Pakistan: Conservation Perspective,” which documents the artwork in historical Sikh temples. It is among the world’s biggest libraries. “All credit goes to Guru Nanak Dev University, that gave me a chance to serve as a teacher,” Singh said in an interview with The Amritsar Tribune.
