Bihar Dy CM Sinha promises compensation for victims of the collapse of the Supurul bridge

After an under-construction bridge over the Koshi River collapsed earlier yesterday, between the districts of Supaul and Madhubani in Bihar, the Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, Vijay Kumar Sinha, declared compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the death and Rs 1 lakh for each wounded person.

The Deputy Chief Minister said that the workers’ medical needs would be met in full by the central government, and an impartial inquiry into the occurrence would be carried out.

I just looked over the bridge. Workers were injured when the section dropped while being lifted. Ten of the eleven wounded workers are no longer in danger, and sadly, one of them passed away. The firm would provide compensation to both the dead and wounded workers: Rs 10 lakh for the deceased and Rs 1 lakh for each injured worker. We’re keeping an eye on the issue. The Indian government is mandated to handle all of the employees’ medical needs and to carry out a fair inquiry, Sinha told ANI.

The deputy chief minister for Bihar said that he and his group will personally greet the accident victims on Saturday.

The National Highway Authority of India was building the 10.2 km bridge across the Koshi River that would connect Bakaur in the Supaul district with Bheja in the Madhubani district (NHAI).

Dharmendra Yadav, an eyewitness to the event, said that “many suffered serious injuries when the bridge collapsed, and around ten to eleven people were working on the under-construction site when it collapsed.”

The Bihar government provided compensation for each wounded person, up to Rs one lakh, and Rs 10 lakh for the dead.

Ten people were hurt and one person was killed when a portion of the bridge fell. The wounded are receiving medical attention and are not in danger. There has been an announcement of ex gratia of Rs 1 lakh for the wounded and Rs 10 lakh for the dead. With the use of cranes, we are attempting to determine if other individuals are stranded, “Supaul District Magistrate Kaushal Kumar said.

In the meanwhile, the Bihar government has reaffirmed that anybody found guilty of malpractice would not be treated leniently.
