The culprit, Suraj Torkad (20), was arrested by the police on March 13 after acting on a tip from Chiple village in Panvel, an official told PTI.

According to the official, Torkad went missing on March 3 after reportedly killing his wife Poornima with a knife and setting her corpse ablaze at their Dharashiv residence, as PTI reported.

He said that the accused put a suicide note and faked the killing with the help of his two accomplices.

According to the official, Torkad, his mother, and his girlfriend are the targets of a complaint filed by the Bhum police in Dharashiv under sections 302 (murder) and other pertinent provisions of the Indian Penal Code, as reported by PTI.

The victim’s family claims that she married the accused after eloping with him in January, and on March 3rd, her in-laws told them of her passing, he said, as reported by PTI.
