Chamba-Holi Road is probably going to stay shut

For the second day in a row, the isolated Holi area in the Bharmour subdivision of the Chamba district was shut off from the state as attempts to repair the road were impeded by the possibility of a landslide.

Following a major landslide that washed away a significant portion of the road at the Khadamukh crossroads, the Chamba-Holi route was stopped on Wednesday.

A roughly 20-meter road has been almost completely destroyed by the avalanche. The Public Works Department is making an effort to start repairs, but the restoration of the road is being hampered by the possibility of further landslides. As a result, the road’s automobile traffic has stopped, which has an impact on daily necessities.

To make matters worse, a significant portion of the road next to the hydropower project site has also sustained significant damage.

The major road is closed as a consequence of the debris continuing to flow onto it. On the remaining sections of the road, large fractures have already appeared, making it vulnerable to collapse at any time.

The government has advised against visiting the region due to the possibility of a collapse in the remaining portion of the road.

Numerous cars, including four buses operated by the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC), private automobiles, and large trucks with building supplies for a hydroelectric firm, are stuck as a result of the road closure.

Even when basic goods like bread, milk, and veggies haven’t reached the Holi region in two days, individuals who need to travel in an emergency must pay outrageous taxi charges to get where they’re going.

Assistant Engineer Bhan Chand Thakur of the Public Works Department said that work was being done to reopen the blocked road close to Khadarmukh even though there was a chance of another landslide. He said that the route will reopen to cars as soon as the danger subsided.
