Check any water leaks in Shimla or take action, authorities warned

The Shimla Municipal Corporation has issued a warning to careless authorities about the serious consequences that may follow if they do not make apologies, in light of the drinking water waste caused by leaky pipes.

Today, Mayor Surinder Chauhan of the Shimla Municipal Corporation conducted an inspection in the Kanlog area, where an estimated 3 to 4 MLD of water was being wasted.

During his visit to the Navbahar neighborhood, the mayor also saw a pipe spilling water. He’d given the go-ahead for the concerned personnel to fix the leak and halt the water.

The Shimla Jal Prabandhan Nigam Limited (SJPNL), which is in charge of managing the daily water delivery operations, was unable to stop the water leak, according to the mayor, who expressed regret over this.

He remarked that their failure to take measures to stop the water leaks and waste was very reckless.

The Mayor said, “I decided to visit the location to take stock of the situation after residents complained about the water leakage.”

If the required actions were made to curb waste, the mayor promised that there would never be a water shortage in the municipality.

Shimla is no stranger to a water scarcity; each summer and monsoon, the town has a water problem. Due to a shortage of drinking water when the Koti Brandi water system dried up, SJPNL has devised a plan to deliver water six days a week.
