Chidambaram queries the BJP’s election manifesto’s lack of mention of Katchatheevu

INC leader P Chidambaram in Sivaganga on Tuesday questioned the BJP about their lack of reference of the island in their election program, given their apparent interest in reclaiming Katchatheevu from Sri Lanka. Speaking to the media, the seasoned leader said that the Katchatheevu controversy was created only for political purposes and that a decision had not been made on the matter in more than 50 years.

“While the governing party’s election manifesto has failed to register with the public, the Congress manifesto is still the talk of the town. “In actuality, the BJP is not even able to reclaim areas occupied by China, despite their claims to be fighting like the late freedom fighters Velu Natchiyar, Kattabomman, and others,” Chidambaram said.
He went on to inquire why the union administration had held negotiations with China for around twenty-one times if no other nation had taken Indian territory.

In response to a question about the DMK’s resolve to eliminate the state’s governorship, Chidambaram said, “The DMK has been stressing to remove the Governor’s post, but it can be done only with parliamentary support.”
