Cong will discuss candidate names for the LS elections at the first CEC meeting

On Thursday, the Central Election Committee (CEC) of the Congress will convene for the first time to discuss candidate names for the next Lok Sabha elections.

In a post on “X,” Congress national secretary in charge of communications Jairam Ramesh said, “The first meeting of the Congress Central Election Committee (CEC) that considers and decides on candidates for Lok Sabha polls is being held at 6 pm on March 7th.”

Notably, Mukul Wasnik, the chairman of the party’s National Alliance Committee (NAC), has been meeting with prominent figures from parties affiliated with the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc to discuss seat-sharing arrangements for the general elections. The party has declared that it will share seats in Uttar Pradesh with the Samajwadi Party (SP) and in Delhi, Chandigarh, Gujarat, Haryana, and Goa with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

The AAP will run in four parliamentary seats and the Congress in three in Delhi, in accordance with the seat-sharing arrangement.

The Congress has not yet formally announced how many seats it will be running for in the elections.

It should be noted that the initial list of 195 candidates for the forthcoming elections was revealed by the governing Bharatiya Janata Party last week. The parliamentary constituency of Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh will be contested by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In preparation for the 2018 Lok Sabha elections, the saffron party declared candidates for five of the seven parliamentary constituencies in Delhi. Four existing MPs, including Union Minister of State for External Affairs Meenakshi Lekhi, were not given tickets.
