Congress politician on Kuki militant chief’s assertion: “I am aware of Himanta Biswa Sarma’s methods”

The Congress turned its fire on former Congressman Himanta Biswa Sarma when a letter from Kuki militant commander SS Haokip dated 2019 surfaced, in which he claimed that the BJP had received assistance from militant organisations to win elections in northeastern states. The letter included the name of Himanta Biswa Sarma. The former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh and Congress leader Digvijaya Singh remarked on Thursday that Himanta Biswa Sarma’s “contacts with militants” were “old news” and that “I know how Himanta operates.”

According to reports, the 2019 letter that Haokip sent was attached as evidence in an NIA court case involving the continuing unrest in Manipur earlier this month. In order to win the 2017 assembly election, it was claimed that “Hemanta Bishwas Sarma” and Ram Madhav relied on the support of the Kuki militant organisations. Despite the letter’s mention of Himanta Biswa Sarma having a different spelling, the Congress said that it was assured that he was included.

“I played a crucial part in the establishment of the state’s BJP-led administration. To be very honest, it would have been almost difficult to establish the BJP-led administration in the state if we had not backed them. According to sources, the BJP candidate in our operational region received between 80 and 90 percent of the votes in the recently ended parliamentary election.

Ram Madhav denied the claims and stated he had never met Kuki insurgents, while Himanta remained silent in response. Bhupen Kumar Borah, the president of the Assam Congress, staged a dharna on Wednesday to call for the immediate detention of the state’s chief executive officer in accordance with the National Security Act. “What has been long believed is now unequivocally shown. It confirms what I’ve been saying all along: Manipur is on fire right now as a result of RSS/BJP politics, according to Congress national secretary Jairam Ramesh.

Does the Assam Chief Minister’s cohabitation with a terrorist group not go against his oath of office? Does he have the right to remain in office until the investigations are finished? Randeep Singh Surjewala of the Congress said.
