Cyberfraudster doctor in Gurugram defrauded of Rs 1.36 crore

A city doctor became a victim of cybercrime and lost Rs 1.36 crore in an investment scam involving stocks that were carried out by anonymous cybercriminals. At the East Cyber Police Station, a formal complaint has been filed.

Dr Puneet Sardana of Sector 56’s Kendriya Vihar Society saw an online advertisement on January 4. The advertising offered the chance to make money by trading stocks and initial public offerings (IPOs) online.

Dr Sardana downloaded a share-buying app via WhatsApp after phoning the number supplied. He made a first investment of Rs 50,000 and bought shares. Afterwards, he was convinced to take part in an initial public offering (IPO), which led to the appearance in his account of an apparent large profit of Rs 3.19 crore. His efforts to take the money out, nevertheless, were unsuccessful.

Dr. Sardana submitted money pretending it was a security deposit in order to get his money back. Afterwards, more transactions totalling Rs 1.36 crore were transferred. The defendant then stopped communicating, which led him to go to the police.
