India is slow to move against Ramdev’s Patanjali Ayurvedic

In spite of numerous infractions of an Act pertaining to deceptive advertising of Ayush goods, the Uttarakhand licensing authorities are still holding off on taking legal action against yoga guru Ramdev’s Patanjali Ayurved. This is in spite of the Supreme Court’s criticism and orders from the Prime Minister’s Office.

In response to a Right to Information (RTI) request from Kerala-based ophthalmologist Dr. K V Babu, the Uttarakhand Ayurveda and Unani Services Licensing Authority said that the state licensing body has instructed the Haridwar drug inspector to carry out an inspection and take appropriate action. Mar. 4 was the date of the RTI reply.

The Uttarakhand State Licensing Authorities had already responded in this manner to Dr. Babu, who has been opposing Patanjali’s deceptive advertising of its medications for heart, diabetes, obesity, and thyroid conditions.

The identical response was provided by the Uttarakhand SLA on September 3, 2022, February 2, 2023, and February 12, 2024.

“The data show that since 2022, a similar directive has been issued about the same matter. But up to this point, nothing has been done. This seems to be a ruse to stretch out the problem, Dr. Babu informed this publication.

He said that for the last two years, “they have been sitting on the communication from the Ayush Ministry and my complaints.”

After failing to receive a response or proper action against the company from either the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954 or the Prime Minister’s Office, the RTI activist wrote to the latter on January 15, citing Patanjali Ayurved’s repeated violations of the act.

Under the Union Health Ministry, Ayush Ministry, and Uttarakhand SLA, the Controller General of India is located.

On January 24, the Ayush ministry was instructed by the PMO to take the necessary measures.
