Delhi: 12-year-old hits a pole while having fun close to house, passes away

NEW DELHI: On Wednesday, while playing near his Chhawla home, a 12-year-old kid came into contact with a pole and was electrocuted. Police are looking into the incident after registering a complaint of carelessness. They claimed that BSES owned the pole. But BSES has refuted the accusation, asserting that it does not maintain the pole.

Kaif Mohammad, who resided in Khaira with his family, was recognized as dead.

After rain and strong gusts on Tuesday, the event happened about 7 p.m. “After we arrived, we saw that Kaif was playing in his house’s alley next to a BSES pole. He was electrocuted after he unexpectedly made contact with the pole, according to an officer.

The boy became caught to the pole while playing fifty meters from his residence. When a bystander saw the toddler, they called the police right away. The boy’s mother and other family members hurried over after hearing the disturbance. Kaif was sent to a hospital right away to get treatment, but when he got there, they pronounced him dead.

The boy’s father was a laborer and he attended Class VI. According to authorities, a complaint has been filed under section 304 A of the IPC, which deals with causing death by carelessness.

Initial investigations, according to BSES, suggest that a homeowner who had expanded the “chhajja” of his property had unlawfully encroached into the abandoned telephone pole. It said that an unauthorized cable from the resident’s property was discovered hanging on the pole, resulting in leaking that caused this regrettable tragedy.

There were allegedly no BSES wires on the phone pole, according to a BSES representative. Upon inspection, the closest BSES pole was found to be undamaged and free of any indication of illicit wiring or leaks. Additionally, the distribution box was secure and in excellent working order. “The private electrician who installed the illegal wire was taken into custody and the house owner was summoned for questioning following a thorough investigation by police,” the official said.

In the capital, electrocution cases have occurred before. In June 2023, a 17-year-old kid in Taimoor Nagar, southeast Delhi, was electrocuted in a flooded roadway. At the New Delhi Railway Station, a 35-year-old teacher was electrocuted the same day. A 24-year-old man passed away in July at a gym in Sector 15, Rohini, from electrocution sustained while using the treadmill.
