Due to overpricing, DCA seizes two pharma stocks valued at Rs 5.52 lakh

Two expensive medications, Itrarole-100 (itraconazole capsules, BP 100 mg) and Itrarole-200 (itraconazole capsules, BP 200 mg), were taken from a medical store in Vanasthalipuram by the Telangana State Drug Control Administration (DCA). Rs 5.52 lakh worth of stocks were taken by the authorities.

DCA states that the narcotics (Prices Control) Order, 2013 applies to the confiscated narcotics. These medications should be priced in line with the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority’s (NPPA) ceiling price.

The NPPA ceiling price (including GST) is Rs 18.67, which means that the producer was charging an excess of Rs 12.33 for each of the 10 capsules of the Itrarole-100, which was being marketed for Rs 310 by Sunfine Health Care, Solan, Himachal Pradesh.

According to the authorities, Itrarole-200, which is produced by the same business, is retailed for Rs 43.50 and has an MRP of Rs 435 for ten capsules. The drug’s NPPA ceiling price, which includes GST, is Rs 24.77. This suggests that the firm was overcharging by Rs 18.73 for each capsule.

“More investigation shall be conducted and action taken as per law against all offenders,” a top DCA official said. The central government sets the ceiling prices, which must be followed by the cost of necessary medications. Under the Drugs (Prices Control) Order, it is illegal to overcharge for necessary medications. Violations will result in harsh punishment, according to the law.
