Due to the rain, the Indian embassy suggests that Indians delay their trip to Dubai

Due to this week’s nonstop rain, the Indian embassy in the United Arab Emirates has recommended Indian travelers arriving at or departing from Dubai International Airport postpone non-essential travel.

“Inbound Indian passengers travelling to or transiting through Dubai International Airport are advised to reschedule non-essential travel till operations normalise,” according to the travel alert issued by the embassy.

The alert went on to say that while UAE officials were working nonstop to ensure that operations returned to normal, customers were advised to proceed to the airport “only after” receiving final confirmation from their individual airlines on the flight schedule and departure time.

“Due to disruption caused by unprecedented weather conditions in the UAE earlier this week, Dubai International Airport has temporarily limited the number of inbound flights,” the alert from the Indian embassy said.

On April 17, the Indian Embassy established emergency hotlines to support Indian nationals impacted by severe weather in Dubai and the Northern Emirates.

On Tuesday, Dubai had more rain than it has in a year, which resulted in severe flooding around the city, with the runway at Dubai International Airport drowning. The airport seemed to be an ocean in a number of videos that went viral on social media. Images showed highways becoming rivers and automobiles and other vehicles submerged. After around 100 mm of rain in 12 hours and 160 mm in 24 hours, the airport had to temporarily suspend operations for about 30 minutes.

Numerous flights were either canceled or delayed on Tuesday, according to the Dubai website. The impacted destinations included Saudi Arabia, India, Pakistan, and the United Kingdom.

On Thursday, the Indian embassy in the United Arab Emirates said that the Indian consulate has helped stranded travelers in Dubai get in touch with their relatives back home in India.

“Helpline numbers will be active till things go back to normal. The Indian community residing in or visiting Dubai and the Northern Emirates will continue to receive our unwavering commitment of support,” the embassy said.
