EC Requests Information from Political Parties About Helicopters and Aircraft Used for Campaigning

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has requested information from political parties about the origin, destination, and number of persons transported in planes and helicopters used for campaigning.

According to a letter dated April 12 from Tejas Samel, the deputy election officer for the Mumbai Suburban district, this information was formerly required to be provided three days before the trip to the district election office, but it is now just required to be provided 24 hours in advance.

On April 17, we will be issuing an updated letter. Samel told PTI on Tuesday night, “They have to notify us 24 hours in advance, instead of three days.”

Included in the data should be the kind of aircraft or helicopter as well as the passengers.

According to the letter, this data must be provided in accordance with the Model Code of Conduct that is in effect for the next Lok Sabha elections and submitted to the ECI.

The 48-seat Maharashtra Lok Sabha will be elected in five stages between April 19 and May 20.
