ED, CBI Founded Under Your Authority: Arjun Ram Meghwal’s Snide Remark at dissent

Arjun Ram Meghwal, the law minister, attacked opposition parties on Saturday for allegedly accusing the government of abusing the ED and CBI, claiming that the agencies were set up during their tenure. Speaking at a seminar on the three new criminal laws here, he said that the law would be followed.

Present were various judges, law enforcement personnel, and government officials, along with Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud. Meghwal expressed his happiness at the presence of CBI director Pravin Sood and ED head Rahul Navin at the meeting.

“This is a major issue in the elections—the claim that the CBI and ED were misused to intimidate the opposition. They are seated here as a result. In a lighter tone, he informed the crowd, “Remain as you would have understood.” Meghwal expressed his curiosity about whether the current administration founded the ED and CBI.

“They were prepared during your visit. Since then, they have been operating. Why are you concerned? The rule of law will guide action. However, this topic has come up in political discussions around elections. I’ll speak with the chiefs of the ED and CBI individually,” he said.
