Every year, almost 500 children participate in the Sanawar cross-country

More than five hundred students and faculty members from Lawrence School in Sanawar participated in the 109th Hodson’s Cross Country Race today.

An officer named Major Hodson had been appointed school secretary in the early years and had a penchant for running.

During his time serving in India, Major Hodson is also credited with founding the Hodson Horse, a cavalry unit that is now known as the Fourth Horse Unit.

Each year, the regiment provides sponsorship for the race’s cups and awards.

In the boys’ and girls’ open categories, Ranraj Choudhary and Avani Dhingra were crowned the best runners, while Shradhaan Singh, Vito Nathan Zhimomi, and Amer Kang took first place in other divisions. Gurleen Klaire, Aarini, and Manasvi Badola won first place in different categories in the girls’ races.

With a time of 7 minutes and 48 seconds, Vito Nathan Zhimomi broke the previous record in the U-14 division.

Baani Bakshi and Ashwary Kumar broke records in the U-12 age group.

The main guest during the event was Gurbaksh Singh Sandhu, a former national head boxing coach.

“You can reach any height in life if you believe in yourself,” Sandhu told the youngsters.

Headmaster Himmat Singh Dhillon praised the senior students for their leadership throughout the occasion and conveyed his thanks to all of the attendees and sponsors.
