Ex-CM of Telangana KCR receives a notice from ECI for derogatory comments he made against Congress

Former Telangana chief minister and leader of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), K Chandrashekhar Rao, has received a notice from the Election Commission of India (ECI) for disparaging, offensive, and vulgar remarks he made against the Congress party.

In accordance with the notification published on Tuesday evening, the ECI requested that Chandrasekhar Rao clarify his stance over the terms “Latkhors,” “Chavata Daddhamas,” and “Chetakani Chavatas” (useless friends) used to refer to the incumbent Congress Government.

By 11 a.m. on April 18, 2024, the ECI has requested that he provide an explanation of his position on the “vulgar,” “derogatory,” and “objectionable” remarks made against the Congress.

It also said that the ECI would decide on the case and take necessary measures without consulting KCR again if he did not respond within the allotted period.

The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee Vice President G Niranjan filed a complaint with the ECI on April 6, 2024, claiming that KCR had made offensive, vulgar, and disparaging remarks against the Congress party at Sircilla on April 5, 2024.

The District Election Officer (DEO) report detailing the purported threats made against the Congress party and its members was also cited by the ECI.

Avinash Kumar, the Principal Secretary of the Election Commission, said in the notice that KCR seemed to have broken the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) on its face. It was said that the BRS President broke the MCC when he criticized the Congress party at his news conference in Sircilla.

The Commission further mentioned that Chandrasekhar Rao had already received a number of warnings and directives about his statements.
