Farmers in Sirsa are agitated by the delayed wheat lifting

With 1,78,233 metric tons (MT) of wheat having already reached the mandis, the district’s grain markets are humming with activity. There’s a problem, though: the wheat lifting is going slowly.

Just 70 of the 90 trucks required to convey the grains have reached the market so far. Farmers are anxious because of this delay, particularly in light of the possibility of crop loss in the event of unfavorable weather.

Arniawali village farmer Raman Singh expressed his dissatisfaction, claiming that even after spending two days at the market, he was unable to locate sufficient storage space for his produce. Farmer Dalip Singh expressed similar worries over the sluggish lifting procedure. He bemoaned the indolence of contractors and voiced concern about rain destroying the produce that was left unattended at the market. Dalip expressed concern about possible crop damage after rains by highlighting the ineffective drainage system in the grain market.

According to the procurement figures, 1,78,233 MT of wheat have been purchased by a number of the district’s markets and buying centers. Among these, the Haryana Warehousing Corporation, HAFED, and the Food and Supply Department have all made substantial contributions. The wheat procurement procedure has been finished in the markets of Sirsa, Kalanwali, Dabwali, Rania, Jeaewan Nagar, Ellenabad, Bani, Kharian, Nathusari Chopta, Mallekan, and Bappan. In other district markets, the procurement process is still underway.

Manohar Mehta, president of the Sirsa Arhtiya Association, addressed the issue and said that steps were being taken to expedite both the procurement and lifting processes. In the meantime, local administrative representatives and Deputy Commissioner RK Sharma visited the market to evaluate the circumstances and provide the required instructions for crop lifting.
