Watch: A man from Kanpur brings his daughter home with band-Baja after celebrating her divorce

A Kanpur dad defied tradition by choosing to have a baraat parade to celebrate his daughter’s homecoming after her divorce. Embracing the jubilant fervour of a traditional bridal procession, this festive gesture differed from the custom of sending women off to their new homes. The incident highlights the need for family acceptance and support throughout critical life changes and represents a change in how society views divorce.

At Palam Airport in New Delhi, Anil Kumar, a BSNL employee, greeted his 36-year-old daughter, Urvi, an engineer, with much affection. The exuberant event, complete with music and a lively band, represented a fresh start and a victorious return to the family’s arms.

“We returned her just as we had sent her off after her nuptials. Anil Kumar said, “We want her to start again with her chin up.

Urvi, who lived in Delhi with her kid after marrying a computer engineer in 2016, was put through hardship when rumors of her in-laws abusing her for dowry began to circulate. Following eight years of suffering—including beatings, torture, and taunts—Urvi pursued legal action, which resulted in her divorce, which the court approved on February 28. After giving her story some thought, she said, “I tried hard to save the relationship…but in the end, it broke down.”

Inspired by his daughter’s hardships and motivated by a desire to defy expectations, Anil planned a happy return for Urvi, complete with festivities and music. “I organised ‘band baaja’ when I brought her back home to send a positive message to society,” he underlined, calling for more acceptance and assistance for daughters who are married.

The touching video, which went viral on social media, shows Urvi taking part in traditional rites just before the neighborhood is filled with the upbeat sounds of dholas.

Kusumlata, Urvi’s mother, said, “I’m excited to spend time with my daughter and granddaughter. It’s a wonderful sensation, too.

Even the neighbors were confused at first, supposing Urvi’s exuberant party to be an indication of her remarriage.

But they soon realized what the real reason for the celebrations was. Urvi, moved by her parents’ kind gesture, thanked them and said she would want to spend some time for herself before starting a new chapter in her life.
