Farms stand by their FIR, Punjab police hesitant

Shubhkaran Singh, 22, a farmer, is said to have died from gunshot wounds from police four days ago, but his post-mortem has been postponed due to the impasse between protesting farmers and the Punjab government. Farmers have asked Punjab Police to file a formal complaint against negligent police, arguing that the event happened inside Haryana’s borders.

According to sources, a FIR had not been filed despite many rounds of discussions between protesting farmers and Punjabi police. There are footage of the event, and Haryana police have already informed us that the Jind police are in charge of the deceased. As a result, they will investigate the situation, according to police sources.

Two days ago, a DSP and the Haryana investigating officer arrived in Patiala to take Shubhkaran’s family’s testimony, a top IPS official stated. However, they had to go back since tensions were running high. However, they made it quite plain to us that they will file a FIR in accordance with the law since the event occurred 700–900 meters within Haryana’s borders. We are at a loss on what to do. There is a standstill because the farmers won’t listen, he added. Senior Kisan Mazdoor Morcha leader Sarwan Singh Pandher claimed that until their main demand of a FIR was fulfilled, they had turned down the Punjab government’s offer of Rs. 1 crore and a job for a victim’s relative. Although the farmers were offered the chance to have another round of negotiations on February 21, according to sources, these could not take place after Shubhkaran’s passing.

Physicians from the Government Rajindra Hospital in Patiala said, “We will perform the autopsy as soon as we receive the police’s approval.”
