Fire tragedy in slum region outside Mumbai claims one life and injures four

On Wednesday morning, a large fire started in a slum in Bhayandar in the Thane district, which is close to Mumbai. Four individuals were hurt and one person lost his life as the flames consumed various twenty-four cottages and establishments.

Commissioner of the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC), Sanjay Katkar, said that the fire in the Azad Nagar slum began at around six in the morning.

The informants said that they heard a few explosions in the area.

When they saw flames, the hut owners and other locals fled their houses quickly.

When the fire event happened, there was mayhem in the slum, according to Katkar, who was in charge of the rescue and relief efforts at the location.

According to the official, up to 24 fire engines were sent to the scene, and attempts were underway to put out the fire.

He said, “There are a lot of businesses in the slum colony.”
