Firm stance on CUHP campus, BJP queries Himachal Chief Minister before his visit to Kangra

The BJP has claimed that Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has been discriminating against the Dharamsala Assembly seat and Kangra district, one day before his planned visit to the region.

In a press release released today, State BJP spokesman Sanjay Sharma said that the Chief Minister needs to first make clear his position about the Central University of Himachal Pradesh (CUHP) north campus, located at Jadrangal, Dharamsala. The Chief Minister had not responded to requests from BJP leaders in Kangra and the Union Ministry of Human Resources, he said, to give Rs 30 crore for the transfer of forestland in the Jadrangal region of the Dharamsala constituency to the CUHP.

“The Kangra district gave the Congress ten members, which helped them seize control in the state. The majority of Congress politicians brought up the CUHP throughout their campaigns. Even though the Union Government has granted all necessary permissions and released Rs 250 crore to begin building the CUHP’s north campus in Jadrangal, the Chief Minister is purposefully withholding the Rs 30 crore that the state must deposit in order to transfer 55 hectares of forestland to the CUHP, according to Sanjay.

“The Chief Minister should explain why he hasn’t released the amount for the CUHP Jadrangal campus before he goes to the polls in Dharamsala and Kangra,” he continued.

“Sukhvinder Sukhu has become the first Chief Minister to end the winter sojourn to Kangra,” a BJP spokeswoman said. Every winter, the Chief Minister would go to the state’s lower regions with his office and spend a week or two at Dharamsala. In addition to giving states’ lower areas symbolic significance, this gave the local populace the chance to interact directly with the administration. But the current Chief Minister called off their winter retreat in Kangra. This demonstrates his prejudice against the Kangra area.

He said that Kangra received the least amount of representation in the Cabinet since the state’s founding. Kangra district received one Cabinet place in the current administration, despite having ten MLAs. Another Kangra minister took oaths only after a mutiny among the MLAs began to simmer. He said that the fact that the second minister was first assigned the sports ministry demonstrated the chief minister’s prejudice toward the area.

Sanjay said that since the current congress administration assumed office, the Dharamsala Smart City project was moving slowly. Numerous government offices were relocated from the area, and hundreds of development projects that the previous BJP administration had approved for the area were no longer announced.
