First, the UN observes a two-day commemoration of Ambedkar’s birth anniversary

Chennai: At its headquarters in New York, the United Nations commemorated Dr. B. R. Ambedkar’s 133rd birthday over the course of two days on April 18 and 23.

A news statement from the Foundation for Human Horizon said that leaders and delegates from 195 nations took part in the festivities. For the first time in UN history, Dr. Ambedkar was given two full days of recognition.

Because of the current elections in India, the ambassador of India was not present at the function. The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, complimented Deelip Mhaske, the event organizer.

As part of the event, two topics were covered: enabling indigenous youth to lead the fight for resilient mountain agriculture, and youth-led solutions for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The conversations led to the preparation of two policy papers. In September, they would be presented before the UN General Assembly.
