Following pirate fire on a vessel in the Arabian Sea, the Indian Navy reacts

In the Arabian Sea, an Indian Navy destroyer was attacked by gunfire from a seized commercial vessel that pirates were using as a base. The Navy has retorted.

“The warship is taking actions as per international law, in self-defence and to counter piracy, and with minimal force necessary to neutralize the pirates’ threat to shipping and seafarers,” said Commander Vivek Madhwal, the Navy’s spokesperson.

The ship and any citizens it may be keeping against their will, as well as the pirates on board, have been called upon to surrender.

The MV Ruen was taken over by Somali pirates on December 14, 2023, and has since been used by them. At that point, it was leaving port and engaging in high-seas piracy.

On March 15, a warship of the Indian Navy intercepted the vessel.

There are a lot of pirates aboard the pirate ship, which puts sailors and international commerce at risk.

The pirate ship is not currently flying the flag of any nation.
