Following the release of eight Indian Navy veterans, PM Modi and his counterpart in Qatar had a “wonderful” encounter

Doha: When Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in the capital of Qatar on Wednesday, the Indian diaspora greeted him warmly. He then met with his colleague, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani. The prime minister described the meeting as “wonderful” on social media and claimed to have spoken about measures to improve relations between the two countries. “The two presidents discussed ways to increase bilateral cooperation in fields including technology, commerce, investment, energy, and finance. They underlined the need of maintaining peace and security in the area and beyond while also talking about recent regional developments in West Asia. The Prime Minister then went to a dinner that the Prime Minister of Qatar had thrown in his honor,” the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.

PM Modi’s second visit
Notably, he traveled to Qatar officially and landed in Doha on Wednesday night. The prime minister initially traveled to Qatar in June 2016; this is his second visit there. “Meeting with PM @MBA_AlThani was fantastic. Our conversations centered on how to strengthen the partnership between Qatar and India,” Modi wrote on X after the encounter.

Modi and the prime minister of Qatar had “fruitful” discussions, according to the ministry of foreign affairs earlier. “HH @MBA_AlThani_, PM & FM of Qatar, met with PM @narendramodi in Doha and had a productive meeting. Expanding bilateral cooperation in areas including commerce and investment, energy, and finance was discussed, according to a spokesman for the foreign affairs ministry named Randhir Jaiswal, who wrote on X.

PM Modi visits his counterpart in Qatar a few days after Indian Navy personnel are freed.
After a fast-paced two days in the UAE, PM Modi arrived in Doha. Among his many commitments there were speeches at the famous World Governments Summit, an event well-attended by the Indian diaspora, and the opening of the country’s first Hindu stone temple.

Hours after seven of the eight imprisoned former Indian Navy personnel returned home, almost three and a half months after a Qatari court handed them death sentences that were later commuted to jail terms ranging from three to 25 years, India announced on Monday that Modi would be visiting the capital of Qatar. The eight Indians were all freed by Qatar. It seems that the former members of the Indian Navy were charged with espionage, but neither New Delhi nor the Qatari authorities disclosed the allegations. In his farewell speech, Modi said that the existence of an Indian community in Doha numbering over 8,000,00 is a “testament to our strong people-to-people ties.”
