Girl Saved From Child Marriage Without Consent Takes First Place in Andhra Pradesh’s First Year Intermediate Exam

In an incredible tale from Andhra Pradesh, a little girl who was previously rescued from an enforced child marriage went on to win the state’s first-year intermediate exam. She passed the test with an outstanding score of 421 out of 440.

G. Nirmala is a student at Kurnool’s Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV), a residential school for females established by the Ministry of Education to empower underprivileged sections. She fought all barriers to achieve her scholastic aspirations.

The Ministry of Education thanked Nirmala for winning the top rank in a post on the social networking site X.

The education ministry wrote in the post shared on April 13: “Congratulations to Ms. G. Nirmala from Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV), Kurnool, a residential girls’ school run by the Ministry of Education for the disadvantaged sections in India, for securing the top spot in the 1st year intermediate exam of the Andhra Pradesh Intermediate Board.”

The government went on to say that it supported Nirmala’s goal of joining the IPS.

She was saved from a juvenile marriage and managed to overcome obstacles to get an outstanding score of 421 out of 440. Her desire to work as an IPS officer demonstrates her commitment to social justice. “Let’s honor her bravery and send her our best wishes for all of her future endeavors,” it continued.

The Times of India said that Nirmala, who is originally from Pedda Harivanam in the Adoni mandal of the Kurnool district, performed very well in her SSC examinations last year, earning 537 marks.

But Nirmala’s parents, who were suffering financially and had previously married off their three other daughters, had planned to set up Nirmala’s marriage. They made an effort to convince her by stating that they could no longer finance her schooling. They also said that there isn’t a junior college in the area, which makes it much harder to help her with her academic endeavors.

Resolved to follow her dreams of schooling, Nirmala went to the local YSRCP lawmaker, Y. Saiprasad Reddy, last year during his “Gadapa Gadapaku Mana Prabhutvam” program, asking for help. The Adoni MLA was moved by her circumstances, and she told district collector G. Srujana, who then took action.

Nirmala was therefore spared the danger of being coerced into an early marriage. Subsequently, Nirmala’s admission to Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya in Aspari was made possible by the district government.

The Adoni member praised Nirmala’s accomplishments and said that her path serves as a live example of the administration of Andhra Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s dedication to empowering girls through education.
