I.N.D.I.A. bloc chairman Mallikarjun Kharge nominated, Nitish Kumar declines convener post: References

Bihar President Minister Nitish Kumar declined the offer, therefore Mallikarjun Kharge, the current Congress leader, was designated I.N.D.I.A bloc president on Saturday, according to sources.

Senior officials of the opposing I.N.D.I. parties Saturday, a bloc deliberated on fortifying the alliance, formulating a plan for seat sharing, and determining whether to choose a convenor for the grouping. Mamata Banerjee, the leader of the Trinamool Congress, was not present at the virtual meeting because she had other commitments. Convenor and chairman will now be the two positions held by the Opposition group.
Numerous politicians reportedly believed that the head of Congress ought to be dubbed the bloc’s chairwoman. Sources said that Nitish Kumar turned down the invitation to take on the role of convenor.

Under the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA), as many as 28 opposition parties have united to challenge and ultimately defeat the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The alliance still has a number of unresolved difficulties, one of which being the appointment of a convenor. Due to claims and counterclaims on the seats, namely in West Bengal and Punjab, where Bhagwant Mann recently said that the AAP would win all 13 Lok Sabha seats in the state, seat-sharing negotiations with opposition bloc members have also not been successful so far
