In Bathinda, Punjab Police ASI Jagtar Singh was caught receiving a bribe

Undaunted by the prospect of censure and punishment, a Punjab Police Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) was apprehended for reportedly asking and taking a bribe for the second time.

Jagtar Singh has been sent to Talwandi Sabo. Talwandi Sabo, a resident of the major market, filed a complaint against him, and he was detained on Saturday.

The complainant was sent to the Vigilance Bureau, where he alleged that a police officer had requested Rs 20,000 in bribe money in return for help with a case.

The ASI, according to the complaint, had already taken Rs 5,000 and was pressing him to pay the balance.

After a Bathinda Range VB squad set up a trap, the accused ASI was apprehended while allegedly collecting a bribe of Rs 15,000 as the second payment from the complainant in front of two official witnesses.

A complaint against the ASI has been lodged at the VB police station in Bathinda Range under the Prevention of Corruption Act. An investigation into this situation is now underway.

In 2020, the officer was also accused with accepting a bribe of Rs 43,000.The accused was earlier detained in 2020 while working at a police station in Bathinda’s canal colony for receiving a bribe of Rs 43,000 in response to an internet complaint submitted under the Prevention of Corruption Act. According to the statement, the court of Additional District And Sessions Judge Bathinda is presently considering arguments in this matter.

A sub-inspector appointed as SHO of Nehianwala police station in Bathinda and an ASI of Punjab Police was caught receiving a bribe of 50,000 in November last year by the vigilance agency. SHO Balkaur Singh and ASI Paramjit Singh were named as the suspects.

 

In May of this year, an ASI was detained in Khanna, Ludhiana, after an internet complaint was filed against a police officer who demanded and accepted a bribe of Rs 9,000.
