As the frigid weather worsened in New Delhi on Monday night, people sought refuge in night shelter houses.

Yamuna Bazar, a caregiver at one of the shelter houses at Dandi Park, said, “There are five shelter homes here. They closed on July 12 due to flooding, and the Supreme Court is now considering a lawsuit involving them. Homeless individuals have made all of the arrangements here, and food is not provided. Since the beginning, I have been employed here for the last eight or nine years.”

At the Anand Vihar Bus Terminus, a tea vendor said that there was no work and that fewer people were coming in because of the cold.

A car driver said that there was no work and that trains were running late because of the cold and fog.

“We’re going to build a campfire to stay warm. It’s been too chilly for the last three or four days. Individuals are going back to their homes without being paid in rupees,” he said.

A person told me that it was becoming very chilly on Firozshah Road. “We are staying warm by utilizing a campfire. The government needs to provide assistance.”

According to a laborer on Firozshah Road, the cold sometimes leaves them unemployed, while other times they have employment.

According to the IMD, Delhi had a low temperature of 6 degrees Celsius on Monday.

People in the cold were seen gathering around bonfires to get much-needed warmth from the flickering flames.

“We are expecting night temperatures to fall during the 5th-11th of January; this may lead to cold wave conditions in certain parts of central India and the adjoining northern plains,” said Dr. Mrityunjay Mohapatra, DG, IMD. Additionally, the daytime temperature will be below average, resulting in chilly weather conditions, particularly in Madhya Pradesh, northern Maharashtra, southern Uttar Pradesh, and the surrounding regions of Rajasthan and Haryana.”
