In J&K, the average person may finally speak up without fear: LG

Manoj Sinha, the lieutenant governor, said on Monday that the average J&K resident may think freely and express their opinions without fear of separatist-terrorist networks under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Sinha was speaking at an India Foundation-organized roundtable discussion on the development situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Lt. Governor discussed the remarkable journey of Jammu and Kashmir towards peace, prosperity, and unheard-of progress in his presentation through video conference from Srinagar.

“J&K UT has seen a spectacular turnaround in less than four years. We eliminated a discriminatory system that had been in place for over seven decades and put in place inclusive policies that encouraged growth and impacted the lives of millions of people. People are free to live their lives as they like, not according to others’ expectations, the lieutenant governor stated.

Sinha emphasised the changes the administration made to create a tranquil and favourable climate that would give the people of Jammu and Kashmir more influence.

“The regular person of J&K may think freely and voice their thoughts without any fear from separatist-terrorist networks for the first time since independence. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the ordinary man is seeing one of the largest revolutions, the Lt Governor stated.

He said that in addition to unprecedented growth with equality and quick economic development, there is also a rapid social shift that is seen in the daily lives of ordinary residents. The desire to succeed in society is rising, he said.

The first stage in the process of growth is peace. Furthermore, we favour fostering peace rather than trying to purchase it. Policy and purpose are interchangeable. Citizens now have equal opportunity for growth after 70 years of discriminatory practises, the Lt. Governor said.

According to him, the G20 summit’s peaceful conduct, the return of the Muharram procession to Kashmir after 34 years, the resurrection of the movie industry, and the record number of tourists visiting the J&K UT have all conveyed a signal that J&K is moving forward.

During the roundtable discussion, Ram Madhav, President of the India Foundation, BVR Subrahmanyam, CEO of the NITI Aayog, Alok Bansal, Director of the India Foundation, Lt. Gen. Syed Ata Hasnain (Ret.), and other notable individuals, experts, senior functionaries, and India Foundation members shared their perspectives and praised the actions taken by the UT administration for the equitable and inclusive development of J&K.
