In Mumbai Airport, DRI Seizes Drug Worth Rs 15 Cr; Indian Passenger and Ugandan Woman Held

A white substance believed to be cocaine worth approximately Rs 15 crore was confiscated by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence from an Indian passenger at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport here, a DRI officer said on Sunday.

According to information, the traveler who took a trip from Addis Abeba to Mumbai was captured on Friday, he added.

A search of his baggage led to the discovery of 1,496 grams of what was allegedly cocaine, which has an estimated street value of Rs 15 crore, the official said.

Additionally, based on persistent questioning of the passenger and surveillance, the DRI officials set a trap and captured the receiver, who traveled to Vashi in neighboring Navi Mumbai to pick up the contraband, he said.

The officer identified the arrested person as a female Ugandan national.

Under the terms of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, both the transporter and the receiver have been placed under custody. The official said that an inquiry is being conducted to find more linkages in the supply chain for pharmaceuticals.
