In Tihar, VVIP prisoners must be housed with “great caution”: Neeraj Kumar, a former commissioner of police

Neeraj Kumar, a former commissioner of Delhi police and director general of prisons, said that VVIP prisoners at Tihar must be treated with “great caution” since they are always at risk of being harmed or threatened.

Tihar prison is home to a number of well-known individuals, including Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his erstwhile cabinet colleagues Satyendar Jain and Manish Sisodia.

During his time in Tihar Jail, Kumar claimed to have had the honor of “taking care of the maximum number of VVIPs.”

“I have the exceptional honor of looking after the greatest number of VVIPs. That was the period of the Commonwealth Games controversy. He said that individuals from Reliance, CWG, Amar Singh, Suresh Kalmadi, Kanimozhi, A Raja (2G spectrum fraud), IAS officials, and IPS officers were there.

He said, “No, they were a big nuisance,” when asked whether they were well-behaved.

Speaking about the daily schedule of a VVIP prisoner, Kumar—who spent about a year and a half in Tihar—explained that it is the same as that of any other undertrial.

“A great deal of attention is given to the housing of a VIP. Regretfully, or happily, Mr. Kejriwal is inside. He will be housed in a location that has been carefully picked with consideration for security, not in a barrack or a cell.

“since many things like “bladebaazi” could occur.” He might be assaulted if you are careless. In addition to attacking him, some have also threatened or blackmailed him for money, he said.

According to Kumar, he has been informed by media sources that Kejriwal has been detained in the prisoners’ jail.

“He’s been housed in a much calmer and safer environment than undertrials.” He remarked, “The trial took place in the case of the criminals, and they are aware that they must live there for the rest of their lives.

Kumar had been one of the most well-known police officers throughout his time there. Regarding the challenges of working in Delhi, he said that the Delhi Police is fortunate in that local politicians do not exert any pressure on them.

Since the Delhi Police is under the Central government, we are free to that degree. But there’s no comparison to any other state for the pressure. People go to Delhi for every issue that arises around the nation, such as the protest by farmers. You can see the impact in Delhi,” he said.

According to him, the outside districts provide less of a problem in terms of law and order, whereas the New Delhi area is the most difficult.

“However, there is the issue of crime in the surrounding areas, particularly street crimes,” he said.
