RWAs in Delhi will present the people’s agenda for a safer, greener, and cleaner city

The city’s 2,500 Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) will shortly release a people’s manifesto calling on the next administration to create a city that is more livable, sustainable, and breathable.

The United Residents Joint Action (URJA) organization, which is made up of the RWAs, said in a statement on Saturday that it will publish a “Citizen Charter of Demands 2024” for the next five years of government with the goal of making the city resource-wise sustainable by 2029.

The group of RWAs states that the threat posed by pollution and the state of the environment right now is the most urgent problem.

The group said, “Over several years, mismanagement, procrastination, warped priorities, multiple authorities, lack of ownership, and misgivings about people-friendly solutions have all contributed to Delhi’s attainment of the infamous title of the world’s most polluted city.”

“In order to restore Delhi to a livable and breathable city, all of the following issues must be addressed simultaneously: residents, voters, children, animals, and birds; health and livelihood; lack of planning; non-implementable notified policies; reluctance on the part of the administration; residents’ sense of belonging; residents’ and migrants’ claims to the city; and frequent and contradictory political interventions. Resilient, endearing, well-fed, and sufficiently beautiful to meet the requirements of a smart capital city on a worldwide scale. The aforementioned information is accurate and applicable to all major cities, including Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai,” it said.

The national capital should serve as a model for the whole country, according to the consortium. “With input from experts and community leaders, this manifesto will present the demands as a starting point for a livable city,” the statement said.
