Jammu: The apricot festival comes to a close with dance and music

Laltinkhuma Franklin, Secretary of Agriculture and Horticulture, and Yatindra M. Maralkar, Chief Electoral Officer of Ladakh, attended the Apricot Blossom Festival’s closing ceremony in Saspol village.

The event included several cultural acts and dances by cultural troupes and gifted students from the Higher Secondary School, Saspol. It was organized by the Tourism Department in cooperation with the Saspol locals.

Saspol Nambardar Tsewang Norboo congratulated the Tourism Department for organizing the event in his welcoming address. Using a traditional scarf, he greeted the dignitaries (khataks). Attendees at the event included representatives from the tourism and horticulture departments.

A group from Leh called SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation) led by State Nodal Officer Tsewang Morup enhanced the celebration by holding an interesting awareness campaign and giving out T-shirts and keychains to attendees. It emphasized the value of voting in a democracy and exhorted everyone to use their May 20 voting rights.

In addition to highlighting the Election Commission of India’s attempts to streamline the election process, Maralkar emphasized the importance of voting. He brought up easily navigable applications such as Saksham ECI, which helps older and handicapped voters, the cVigil app, which reports model code of conduct infractions, and the KYC app, which provides access to criminal histories of candidates.

He invited everyone to visit the ECI website and go over these materials. In order to ensure a dynamic and strong democratic process, participants were asked to actively engage in the next Ladakh elections and cast their ballots on May 20 as the event came to a conclusion.
