Karimnagar candidate for the Congress is Rajender Rao

Karimnagar: Velichala Rajender Rao was declared by the Congress leadership as the party’s nominee for the Karimnagar Lok Sabha constituency on Wednesday, capping many days of anticipation and excitement. Rajender Rao entered politics by following in his father Velichala Jagapathi Rao’s, footsteps. After almost ten years away from active politics, he decided to return, put in a strong effort to demonstrate his qualifications, and was successful in obtaining the ticket.

Rajender Rao earned his MBA from Osmania University in 1981–1983, after completing his BA (Honors) from Ram Jas College in New Delhi. In 1989, he was chosen to be the Chairman of Gundi Gopalraopeta Single Window while serving as the MD of a construction firm. He held the positions of State Joint Secretary, Secretary of the Youth Congress, Chairman of the Karimnagar Market Committee, and State Secretary of the Market Committee Chamber from 1991 to 1994.

He was the State Secretary of TRS and oversaw the youth and student wings from 2001 to 2004. He ran as an independent from the Choppadandi seat in 2004 and received thirty thousand votes, placing him in third place. In 2009, he ran as a Karimnagar MP for the Praja Rajyam Party and finished third.
