Kerala health department tightens precautions against bird flu

To create an action plan in response to the bird flu epidemic in Alappuzha, the health department convened a meeting on Friday. According to Health Minister Veena George, facilities have been set up and monitoring has been improved as preventative measures. The minister emphasized the need to take action to stop the sickness from spreading to other people.

According to the plan, those in the impacted regions who have a fever and other symptoms would spend two weeks under particular care. In government hospitals, a specific OP will be scheduled to examine them rather than a normal OP. Within three kilometers of the location where bird flu has been identified, a fever survey will be carried out, and swab samples will be checked to ensure that bird flu is not present.

Field-level personnel and Asha workers will lead to the strengthening of field-level operations. People should be instructed to closely adhere to quarantine measures if they come into touch with birds that are infected with avian influenza.

Within ten kilometers of this location, surveillance will be stepped up in certain regions. Reporting any bird fatalities should happen right away. The minister said that volunteers with One Health training would also be participating.

The hospital’s readiness was evaluated during the conference as well. In case of duck-to-human transfer, the General Hospital in Alappuzha has been designated as an isolation center.

The superintendent of Alappuzha Medical College Hospital has been instructed to set up accommodations for patients exhibiting severe symptoms linked to avian influenza. The tasks will be supervised by a nodal person who will be selected.
