Large amount of illegal alcohol, lahan found; six detained

The Amritsar rural police carried out a cordon and search operation (CASO) in the regions of the police stations at Lopoke, Bhindisaida, and Mattewal today in anticipation of the Lok Sabha elections. They found a significant amount of illegal alcohol and lahan.

Throughout the operation, the police also took six people into custody and filed seven FIRs.

Arshdeep Singh of Chak Mishri Khan village, Hardeep Singh of Lalia village, Hardeep Singh of Kohali village, Tota Singh of Kolowal village, Sikander Singh of Kolowal village, Dilbagh Singh of Bhindi Saida, and Kevwal Singh of Mattewal were among those who were taken into custody.

During the operation, the police busted three illegal stills and seized 1,860 kg of lahan in addition to 108 liters of illicit booze.

Large amounts of illegal alcohol and lahan were also found earlier, on March 22, during a CASO operation that took place in the rural region. Five bootleggers carrying 3,300 kg of lahan and 420 liters of illegal alcohol were apprehended by the police.

The production of illegal alcohol has posed a threat. Lopoke continued to be a hub for the production of illegal alcohol, with significant police seizures occurring there in the past. Following the hooch disaster in the Sangrur area, which claimed the lives of around twenty-one people, the seizure was carried out.
