Laxman Tiwari, a former BJP politician, joins the Congress

Bhopal: On Monday, Laxman Tiwari, a former leader of the BJP and MLA from Madhya Pradesh, joined the Congress.

Tiwari placed a strong emphasis on fortifying the opposition party after joining the Congress before the Lok Sabha elections. A day after meeting Jitu Patwari, the head of the party’s state branch, he joined the Congress.
At the time of Tiwari’s admission into Congress, the grand old party was dealing with a defection of members.

In 2008, Tiwari became victorious from the Mauganj assembly seat as the nominee of the Bharatiya Jan Shakti Party (BJSP), which was put out by Uma Bharti, the previous chief minister. He ran as the saffron party candidate from Mauganj in 2013 after the BJSP’s merger with the BJP; however, he was unsuccessful. After the BJP refused to allow him to run for re-election in the 2018 assembly elections, he rebelled and decided to run as an independent. He joined the SP last year and campaigned from Sirmaur in the Rewa district in the assembly elections. PTI
