Laxmi Nagar in Delhi is a CA coaching hotspot among an urban chaos

Laxmi Nagar is well-known for teaching CAs, while Mukherjee Nagar is well-known for UPSC preparation.

Hundreds of students living in leased homes are studying for the competitive test in the assembly sector, which is a part of the East Delhi constituency.

The area’s marketplaces have changed significantly as a result of the student population. These days, their main uses are restaurants, real estate offices, bookshops, and stationery businesses.

Sadly, its tiny roads, matchstick-shaped homes, encroachment, trash-filled streets, filth left by street sellers, and traffic problems are some things that haven’t improved throughout time and have become worse.

Problems

Delhi Police conducted a study in 2023 to determine the main locations of traffic congestion along 117 route segments and 10 flyovers.

Nirman Vihar and Laxmi Nagar on the Vikas Marg were found to be the most crowded areas in East Delhi. Even though the metro has traversed this portion, there is still a lot of traffic.

Urban problems such as careless building, extensive encroachment, unrestrained commercialization, poor sanitation, and insufficient infrastructure also plague Laxmi Nagar.

The students who pay for their accommodations, which range from Rs 5 to Rs 6,000, claim they have to struggle every day to get sunshine and fresh air since their rooms are small and only have one bed.

Among the other problems are parking, sanitary conditions, and the availability of drinking water. “Roads are covered with dust and in extremely bad shape. Waste from construction and destruction is scattered about in the open. According to 29-year-old Laxmi Nagar resident Akshay Kumar, “the water supply is irregular.”

“In the Lok Sabha elections, I will not cast a vote for the AAP. I support the BJP,” he continues.

Residents in the region are still plagued by memories of the 2010 Lalita Park building collapse, which claimed the lives of over seventy people. They claim that despite the government’s pledge to modify many dangerous structures, not much has been done to solve the issue.

Population

It includes refugees from Punjab as well as middle-class migrants from Uttarakhand and western Uttar Pradesh. Because of its central location in East Delhi, it has easy access to Noida via the Noida Link Road, Ghaziabad via Anand Vihar Road, and other sections of the city via Vikas Marg, including Connaught Place.

Safe and affordable transportation to the majority of Delhi NCR is guaranteed by a dedicated metro station on the Blue Line and an interchangeable metro station of Yamuna Bank located only one stop away. The BJP has won the polls three times in the previous seven significant elections, while the AAP and Congress have won twice apiece.

The students who live in rented apartments or as paying guests claim that they struggle every day to get sunshine and fresh air since their rooms are small, have only one bed, and cost Rs 6,000 a month.
