Lok Sabha Elections 2024: PM Modi Chairs BJP’s Late-Night Key Meeting; First Candidate List To Be Released Soon

The BJP’s Central Election Committee (CEC) met late into the night under the direction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in order to finalize the initial list of candidates for the next Lok Sabha elections, which are anticipated to take place in April or May. Among those present were Union ministers Rajnath Singh and Amit Shah as well as President of the Bharatiya Janata Party JP Nadda.

State chief ministers from several states, including Goa’s Pramod Sawant, Gujarat’s Bhupendra Patel, Madhya Pradesh’s Mohan Yadav, Uttarakhand’s Pushkar Singh Dhami, Madhya Pradesh’s Yogi Adityanath, and Chhattisgarh’s Vishnu Deo Sai, arrived at the BJP headquarters for the meeting.

It is the goal of the governing Center party to declare candidates for a significant portion of the 543 Lok Sabha seats prior to the Election Commission releasing the election schedule. It is anticipated that the Opposition INDIA group, which is now going through the seat-sharing procedure, would feel pressure from this effort by the BJP. Party insiders claim that several of the seats the BJP has targeted to boost its chances after losing these elections in 2019 may be included in the first lists of candidates.

Following their decision by the party not to grant them another term in the Rajya Sabha at the most recent biennial elections to the Upper House of Parliament, a number of Union ministers, including Bhupender Yadav, Dharmendra Pradhan, and Mansukh Mandaviya, are expected to run in the general election.

Everyone will be watching the BJP to see whether it decides to nominate any well-known figures or try someone else. The party’s polling candidate lists have often been as crucial for the marginalized as they are for the up-and-coming candidates. Before the CEC makes a final decision, the party’s brain trust—which includes Shah and Nadda—has met with state leaders on a number of occasions to compile lists of possible candidates.
