Madras High Court probes TN over inquiry delay in Vengaivayal case

The state’s failure to conclude its probe into the faecal matter pollution of potable water at Vengaivayal in Pudukkottai district has been questioned by the Madras High Court.

“Although about 15 months have gone since the FIR was filed in June 2023, the inquiry is still ongoing. Why is there a delay? What time will you finish it up? During the hearing of a PIL petition on the subject on Tuesday, the first bench comprising Chief Justice SV Gangapurwala and Justice J Sathya Narayana Prasad was questioned.

The CB-CID’s attorney, who is closely examining this matter, said that 337 witnesses’ testimonies had been recorded, a narco-analysis test had been completed, and the jurisdictional court had approved the holding of a voice analysis test.

He informed the court that the investigations will be finished in three months. The case was postponed by the court until June 30.
